Microphone clipping test

Observe repeated peaks near digital full scale while you speak.

How to run this check

Start the microphone and speak at your normal and louder levels for at least three seconds.

Understand the result

PASS describes a received signal or your recorded observation. WARNING calls for another check. USER REVIEW REQUIRED means a measurement alone cannot decide. An unavailable API or denied permission does not establish hardware failure.

What this cannot tell you

Three sampled windows with a peak at or above 0.99 indicate possible clipping. Unsampled peaks can be missed; processing changes the signal.

If something seems wrong

Reduce input gain, increase microphone distance slightly and repeat at the same speaking level.

Good to know

Is anything uploaded?

Raw diagnostic input and media are processed locally. Results remain in this page’s memory until you download a report or leave. Hosting and Google Analytics requests still leave your browser. Analytics receives only broad test-usage categories, never these diagnostic contents. See the privacy policy.

Does a pass guarantee my hardware is healthy?

No. It records behavior observed in this browser session. Intermittent faults, internal components and operating-system restrictions need further investigation. See our methodology.
